Chris Tryhorn

Chris Tryhorn was born in 1978. He grew up in Croydon, on the outskirts of London, and attended Whitgift School, where he enjoyed learning Latin and Greek.

He studied Classics at University College, Oxford. The highlight of his degree was reading Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey in the original ancient Greek. While at Oxford, he also edited the student newspaper Cherwell.

He worked at the Guardian for seven years as a media and business reporter. Later, he became a researcher, working at the BBC in various capacities and co-writing a report on public service television for an inquiry led by Lord Puttnam. He has taught journalism students at three universities and also worked as a tutor teaching Latin and Greek.

Chris has written two books — short novel versions of the Iliad and Odyssey, which he hopes will introduce the general reader to these masterpieces of ancient literature. Homer’s Odyssey was published as an ebook by Troubador in July 2026. He hopes to publish Homer’s Iliad in the next year.

He lives in south London with his family.
